EP Vlad Nistor (PNL, EPP) hopes the transition of power in the US will end “under natural circumstances” after “the world’s most important democracy has been the victim of undemocratic attacks”, which resulted in the death of a woman.

“A very sad evening in which the world’s most important democracy has been the victim of undemocratic, meaningless attacks and hopefully without long-lasting consequences. Every person who loves and admirers American democracy can only hope that this transition of power will end under natural circumstances and that the US will continue to play its essential role in the world”, the Romanian MEP wrote on Facebook.

Thousands of supporters of US President-in-Office Donald Trump gathered in front of the Washington Capitol on Wednesday and brought down several security barriers, leading to clashes with police and chaotic scenes outside the US Congress, where  congressmen had gathered to officially validate Joe Biden’s electoral victory.

Subsequently, an unidentified woman was shot when pro-Trump demonstrators stormed the Capitol building on Wednesday after a rally at which the incumbent president stirred up his supporters by launching new groundless accusations that the elections were rigged and encouraged them to March towards the Capitol.
